South Shropshire Furniture Scheme wins FRN President’s Award 2011


South Shropshire Furniture Scheme (SSFS) and Shropshire Housing Alliance (SHA) have scooped this year’s Presidents Award at the FRN’s (Furniture Reuse Network) Annual Conference. The award, for Innovation and Design of products or services, was presented to Julian Price and Jean Jarvis MBE at the FRN conference in Solihull last weekend, by FRN President Richard Featherstone.

IKEA reveals early success with FRN reuse initiative

Furniture reuse organisations across the UK could gain hundreds of thousands of pounds a year of extra income under a new initiative which encourage IKEA's online customers to donate their used furniture to a member of the Furniture Reuse Network, the retail giant has claimed. Speaking at the Furniture Reuse Network's (FRN) annual conference in Solihull last week (January 21), IKEA's UK sustainable development manager Charlie Browne also revealed that it had commissioned research to look at how it could help develop infrastructure to bring material back to the reuse sector.

New average weights for furniture

The Furniture Re-use Network (FRN) has updated its average weights list. The list is more comprehensive than ever before, including items that had previously been missed out and breaking items down into different types, such as differentiating between cane conservatory-style sofas and regular household sofas. There are also listings for bathroom, garden, office and other bulky waste items which will inform bulky waste analysis work.
