We’re really excited to announce that two of the Furniture Re-use Network members will have their upcycled furniture displayed and used in the highly prominent go-to Viridor café at the RWM Exhibition at the NEC from 13 – 15 September.

When Suffia from Viridor first came to us with the idea of including the concept of re-use into their popular café she knew she wanted quirky, out of the ordinary items that would stand out from the corporate crowd and shout ‘re-use’. Little did she know just how quirky, delightful and wonderfully unusual the upcycled and recovered furniture of the FRN member really could be. As I bounced through the endless photographs showing stools made of washing machine drums, clock face tables, suitcase shelves, sofas covered with recovered denim cast offs, ornaments made from cutlery – she began to realise how creative the furniture re-use sector was and just how tough Viridor’s decision of what to choose would be.

After weeks of too-ing and fro-ing, of sharing photos of the FRN members work, of logistical negotiation and scaling the project up and down, we – Viridor and the FRN – chose Total Reuse and Reviive to bring their work to the RWM.

Sofas and tables made from upcycled and recovered materials by talented folk at Reviive and Total Reuse will feature in the Viridor café – highlighting the importance of re-use. Like all FRN members, had Total Reuse and Reviive not seen potential in these items they would have ended up in landfill. Instead, the imagination of trainees, volunteers and people on placement have been nurtured and encouraged by Total Reuse and Reviive so when a tattered item is delivered to their door they see the endless hidden potential, making glorious items that can be sold at reduced costs to those people who need it.

So if you’re popping into the RWM Exhibition head to the Viridor Café – grab a coffee and snuggle down into a sofa made of pallets (with cushions!), or rest against a table fashioned from a packing case and decorated with DJ decks, or use a washing machine drum table lit and sparkling from inside out…

And when you’re thoroughly rested make your way to the Furniture Re-use Network stand at 4H31 to find out all about re-use and why we are so passionate about it. Find out just how it can bring down a company waste bill whilst increasing their Corporate Social Responsibility activities; how it can reduce community waste helping Local Authorities to save money whilst supporting their people. Find out how re-use can create a strong support network to those members of our communities who absolutely need it. Find out this and meet the FRN team. We’ll see you there.

Let the adventure began...
