Ethos statement
The FRN was established in 1989 with the desire to continuously improve the services
of furniture re-use charities in the UK.
What are our values for improving services?
We expect member organisations to strive to comply fully with all relevent legislation
eg in employment and health and safety and to work towards best practice in all areas
eg volunteering and anti-discriminatory practice. However the scope of member projects goes well
above and beyond statutory requirements and focuses on a quality service for all involved in
each project. In response to this the FRN will continue to develop and promote its National
Standards, and encourage members to participate in this programme. Where electrical goods
are handled, we expect members to comply with WEEE directives and Fit for Re-Use guidelines.
In this we we hope that individuals will receive more satisfaction from their experience of
furniture and household effects reuse, whether that be as a donor of furniture, a volunteer,
member of staff, referral agency or of course a household in receipt of furniture.
The FRN also expects members to interact cooperatively and supportively with one another,
to share best practice and consider other members when expanding services into geographical
areas already covered. With reference to accepted principles of Community development we
expect all members to interact with their communities, to empower those communities and
include and represent them.
