About the charity:

Changing Lives in Cheshire (CLiC) is a social enterprise committed to delivering real environmental, social and community impact. We provide creative solutions to social and environmental issues. Structured as a charitable company, we aim to be financially sustainable through enterprise but our social impacts (the way we help change people’s lives) are at the core of why we do what we do.

Our Core Business

  • enabling people on a low income to get access to good quality items for the home at low cost.
  • providing employment, training and development opportunities for local people, and
  • reuse and recycling of waste to help to protect the environment

CLiC is about more than just restoring household items, we take donated goods and provide them at low cost to low income families across Cheshire. Our vision is to enable people to progress, give them confidence and take control of their lives. We offer 1-2-1 support through our volunteering, work experience and training schemes; preparing people for the work place and teaching them the vital life skills and sense of worth which will energise them to succeed for themselves.

What the charity achieved in 2016/2017:

CLiC is ambitious in its vision; over the past year it has opened not one but three new stores that offer people affordable furniture through reuse, recycled or new goods.

The Creative Concepts store offers an alternative to the traditional charity shop found on high streets up and down the country. A shop based on creativity, the socially isolated can participate in craft and upcycling sessions whilst volunteers and artisans showcase and sell their goods; all whilst providing an attractive addition to a neglected town centre.

The Outlet store, based in Winsford town centre, offers choice for low income families to purchase affordable new goods. By providing quality new items at low prices, CLiC hopes that people will be less likely to take extended credit or go to irresponsible lenders

The opening of a new, retail store in Warrington has proved such a success that CLiC is now scaling up its retail activity, with a new flagship store opening in Warrington on 10th April enabling another deprived town to access quality reused and recycled furniture, provide the town centre with a community hub by working in partnership and expand volunteer and work experience opportunities for those from disadvantaged wards.

Why this matters:

Changing Lives in Cheshire is about much more than recycling furniture, bric a brac and electrical appliances to those that desperately need them, it’s about the people we engage to help us do this. Changing Lives in Cheshire is about the lives we turn around every day. We seek to reintegrate people to take a role in their communities plus move those furthest from the job market back into work.

Through the opening of new stores CLiC is able to continue providing and supporting volunteering opportunities to those in the most disadvantaged areas, extending its services in a wider geographic area, reaching people, often isolated, who may normally find it difficult to feel a valued part of their community. Continuing and building on our successes will raise our profile to a wider community

and assist in generating more income, increasing our ability to be self-sustaining but perhaps more importantly we will integrate retail with leisure use and office space to truly meet local community needs.
